I recently scored a pair of Christian Louboutins for a practically a steal (retail $1195 and I paid $230 incl tax and shipping!) BUT it got me thinking about a connection between women, shoes, and sex appeal, and I think this is a good excuse to share it (plus share some other shopping options so you can have you own louboutins!).
When it comes down to it, all women are sexy in their own way. Whether other people find your sexiness attractive to them will vary because that’s just how the human mind works. We’re all individually spectacular but “beauty” is in the eye the of beholder. And I’m not just talking about physical beauty. I really feel that sexiness is more about personality and less “tangible” things like your physical appearance. For example, I think I’m physically attractive but I’ll personally admit that there are a LOT of other, more physically attractive women (and men) out there. Yet I still think I’m sexy AF. Why?
CONFIDENCE ladies and gentlemen, I have confidence. I know that I’m pretty. I know that I’m smart and talented and a one-of-kind piece of work. And I don’t need 4 inch heel to feel that way or express it to the world. I am such a confident badass that most of my shoes are gorgeous flats- including most of the Louboutins I own (I have 5 now). Plus pain isn’t sexy. Just saying…
Now let me just clarify something. This isn’t a bash post about high heels. (I DO love them). I’m also NOT suggesting that if you want or need or enjoy wearing high heels that you’re not confident. I have heels and I do wear them when I feel that the occasion is appropriate. Again, I’ll be the first to admit that there is something so appealing about a leg lengthening pair of stilettos.
But I’m over this cultural crap that’s been shoved down women’s throats and seared into our brains for longer than almost any women on the planet has been alive: that only high heels will make you look sexy.
The stiletto was born many years ago and for decades women have been culturally bombarded with the image of what society deems sexy and they all too often feature women in heels. I mean, how many strippers wear flats? The Cannes Film Festival infamously banned non-high heeled shoes on the red carpet. Like, I could go on but you get what I’m saying …
So here’s my counter to this cultural “brainwashing”: if you have confidence in yourself (and everyone should!) then let it show in your personality and how you carry yourself because THAT is what is going to make you glow like the sun. If you want to pair it with a 4 inch pair of So Kate heels then go for it! But don’t feel compelled to wear heels just to be sexy. You are an incredible person and I want you to have the self esteem and confidence to walk down the street in a pair of red soled flats and not NEED those sky high heels to do it for you.
High heels are great but I think the flat needs some love (plus who is going anywhere right now to warrant a teeter tottering stiletto???).
